Lino Lakes homes run newer than the area overall - most of this town's housing dates to around 1993, a couple decades past the median year built (1975) across the wider 41-area service territory. That gap means the doors here mostly still have their original builder-grade rollers: stamped steel wheels on plain bearings, not the galvanized or nylon rollers that came standard later. Steel-on-steel rollers from that era are loud by nature, and after 30 years they've usually worn an oval groove into themselves rather than staying round. You hear it as a rhythmic thump instead of a smooth roll. In our cold climate band, that worn steel also seizes faster once grease hardens in January, so the same door that was just noisy in October can bind hard by midwinter. It's not a Maplewood-era hardware fault - it's a newer-build fault, and the fix looks different.
